Ekiti speaker lauds N’Assembly for summoning Okonjo-Iweala

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin, has praised the House of Representatives for summoning the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo –Iweala, to explain why the subvention to the states has not been paid in the last three months.

Omirin spoke during an empowerment programme in his constituency at Aisegba Ekiti on Saturday.

The speaker said, “This has substantiated the fears in some quarters that the country is broke.

“Something fundamental is wrong with the present administration. At this time when the state allocation has not been paid for months, two armoured vehicles worth N255m were bought for the personal use of the Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Stella Oduah.

“This shows the insensitivity of the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government. I am indeed happy with the House of Representatives summon of Dr. Okonjo-Iweala to explain to the nation the true position of our finances.”

As part of his empowerment project, the lawmaker donated a Sharon VR6 vehicle and five motorbikes to the transport unions in Aisegba Ekiti.

He said a total of N10m was spent on empowerment of youths, widows and students in the constituency.

“We have done this despite the fact that Ekiti lawmakers had no statutory constituency allowances from the government,” he said.
